Cases of disease of the hands, feet and mouth are on the rise, according to a local doctor

Local doctors warn parents against an upsurge in the disease of the hands, feet and mouth in children and the adults.

The contagious disease appears just before the children return to school

Action News Jax Courtney Cole spoke to a local doctor who shares the best ways to protect himself against this disease

It is a contagious and painful disease usually seen in children under 10 years old.

The Jacksonville doctors now want to warn the parents.

"Of course, when we go back to school, primary school kids will run a high risk. Foy tells Action News Jax.

Dr. Foy says that it is most often caused by a virus.

"It is usually composed of a fever, a rash that can develop in the mouth with blisters or sores on the hands and feet."

"It is easy to spread, so the way we try to prevent children from happening to each other is to make sure we wash our hands well," said Dr. Foy. It is also important to make sure that you cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

.Foy told Action News Jax Courtney Cole that she heard about rising business in the United States and in our region.

" I know that some of my colleagues reported seeing a few more cases, but we have not seen it yet in our office.

Currently, Action News Jax is investigating how many hand, foot and mouth cases have been reported to local hospitals this year.
