1 dead, 1 criticized after shooting at party in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and the other in critical condition early Sunday morning. University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe, 21, was later identified as the person killed.

The shooting took place at 12:30 a.m. during a house party in the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street at Sugar House.

Police received a noise complaint about a house party in the neighborhood around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night and at 12:20 p.m. police received a call reporting a fight involving a gun.

Police arrived at the scene, finding Lowe and sending a victim, identified only as an adult female, to hospital in critical condition.

Police said they believed several people witnessed the shooting and fled before police arrived.
