MAGNA – A SWAT situation at a Burger King resulted in road closures all night after officials said that a man had barricaded himself in a bathroom and had fired shots from the inside.
The situation was resolved Wednesday morning and a person was arrested.
It began at Burger King, located at 8443 W. Magna Main St., when management contacted the police at approximately 11 pm On Tuesday, report that someone was in the bathroom for over an hour and would not be out. When the unified police arrived, they said that a man had pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers.
Authorities said they were able to restrain the man in the restroom while other officers began evacuating Burger King employees and customers from nearby businesses.
The man refused to listen to orders, officials said, and began firing from inside the restroom.
There was a large police presence on the site and officials canceled classes in nearby schools as no solution was in sight. But shortly before 5:30 Wednesday, the police could put this man in custody.
"After several hours of trying to persuade him, he finally agreed to come alone," said Detective Unified Police Kevin Mallory. "(He) was safely detained without incident."
The suspect has not been identified yet.
Unified police reported that classes were back and that the intersection near the Burger King should be open to traffic around 6:30 am. However, 2,700 south remained closed to the west of 8,400 west at 7 o'clock.
From 6 o'clock this morning, @UPDSL have solved the stalemate since last night and all schools in the Magna region are in session with normal start times this morning. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to keep children safe!
