A sailor was killed in a vehicle rollover Thursday morning during training activities at Camp Pendleton in California, the army announced. Six other Marines were injured, but the injuries were described as not being serious.

The accident involving a light armored vehicle occurred around 9 am, said the 1st Marine Division in a statement. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation, said the Marines.

The Marines belong to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion of the 1st Navy Division.

"It's a tragic event and our thoughts go out to family, friends and unity in this difficult time," said the 1st Navy Division.

The name of the deceased Navy was not immediately published, pending notification from the next of kin.

Pendleton's Navy Corps camp is described by the military as the largest west coast expeditionary training center and one of the busiest defense department.
