HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A one-year-old girl was pronounced dead after being accidentally left in a vehicle Thursday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

MPs responded to reports of a child being left in a vehicle in the Crescent Park Village subdivision, located in the 8000 block of Barnes Ridge Lane, around 6 p.m.

Investigators said the mother was taking her three children aged 5, 3 and 1 to daycare this morning, but when she arrived she only dropped off the children aged 3 and 5. MEPs believe that the 1-year-old was accidentally left in the vehicle.

MPs said the mother had returned home and at some point in the day she went to exercise. It wasn’t until she picked up her other children from daycare that she realized she hadn’t dropped off her one-year-old daughter.

MPs said a daycare worker returned home with the mother to help search for the one-year-old and found her in a vehicle on the back floor.
