Thanos was right about the Avengers. He offered them their first unqualified defeat in Infinity War, released one of Vision's strongest members, as well as Gamora's Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor's brother, Loki. This had a devastating effect on the rest of the Avengers, including Tony Stark who not only abandoned the Avengers, but also Iron Man. During the Endgame, Thanos managed to get his advantage, but hardly. There was more than one window where he or the Dark Order could make a difference, collect the Infinity Stones, complete a new Infinity Glove and keep his perfect record against the Mightiest Heroes of the Earth.

In some cases, he could have avoided having to prevent the destruction of The Snap in the first place. Every villain has his faults. Thanos' has advantages. His assured nature is the product of his willingness to accomplish what he thinks is his destiny. After defeating entire planets as part of his normal workweek, he can be forgiven for underestimating the resistance of the Earth and his superheroes, but he has always made mistakes that eventually defeated him. From monologues to resource management to timing, it's the cracks in the armor that have allowed Avengers and assembled heroes from the Marvel film universe to succeed and bring everyone back. Most of them relate to the nebula. Thanos definitely had a nebula problem.
