Recorded in Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Mexico, The last World Tour was born during the coronavirus pandemic. Below, discover 10 essential tracks recommended by Latin Billboard editors Griselda Flores and Jessica Roiz.
“Te Mudaste”
Although Bad Bunny took a different melodic path on his new album, “Te Mudaste” remains true to the essence of reggaeton. Towards the end, the rhythm completely transforms into an 80s synthwave instrumental pop sound. Singing about the last time they had sex and all the good times they had together, the nostalgic lyrics are about a person who remembers a long lost love.
“Fuckin ‘poverty”
A notable track on the album is the spanish rock– inspired “Maldita Pobreza”. With a late ’80s / early’ 90s vibe, Bad Bunny proves he’s not afraid to experiment with different sounds and tap into different genres. Get away from his ultra perreo and reggaeton sound YHLQMDLG, “Maldita Pobreza” is refreshing and shows a musical side of Bad Bunny that we haven’t seen yet – and want to see more of.
“Last Night’s Night”, with Rosalia
This is the collaboration we expected in 2020, and we were not disappointed. For their very first collaboration, Bad Bunny and Rosalía opt for a mellow reggaeton track that brings the powerful and unique voices of both artists to the fore. “La Noche de Anoche” finds Puerto Rican and Spanish artists exchanging verses on an unforgettable night in between. “I know this won’t happen again, but if it did, I would become your weakness.
“I saw like that”
Along with the release of his new album, Bad Bunny created the music video for “Yo Visto Asi”. Fans got a taste of this track during the Cheetos commercial, where the artist is seen munching on crisps at the recording studio. With this track, which fuses Latin trap and heavy rock rhythms, Bad Bunny sets the tone for the majority of the album. In essence, he sings about his unique personality and shameless fashion style. “I dress like this, I’ll never change,” he says in the chorus. In the music video, Bunny appears with a variety of celebrities including Ricky Martin, Karol G, Sech, Sofia Vergara, Francisco Lindor and many more.
“Make you love me”
The ultimate breakup song, “Haciendo Que Me Amas” finds a heartbroken Benito coming to terms with a romantic relationship that may be over. “If it’s over, don’t hide it, tell me. Don’t make it worse by pretending you love me. The slowed-down track is all about emotional lyrics and Benito at his most vulnerable. He’s a meticulous songwriter and this song is a testament to his craft.
“Booker T”
A true wrestling enthusiast, “Booker T” owes its name to the former WWE professional wrestler and WCW champion. Melodically, Bunny presents a raw trap song, highlighting all the success he’s had in recent times. He sings about being named Composer of the Year, winning major awards, breaking records with his music, and more. “I’m in my prime, I’m a king, a champion, Booker T / I’m in my prime, look what I’ve become,” he says. On Twitter, Booker T gave his approval. “Can you dig it, sucka? Hi to @sanbenito. Congratulations on the new album! He tweeted.
“Drugs”
In “La Droga”, Bad Bunny compares his fatal attraction to a woman to that of a deadly drug. “You’re the drug mom told me about / The one that kills if I taste it / And I was so stupid to think you loved me,” he says. Like the rest of this album, the Puerto Rican artist was not afraid to completely marry two genres, trap and punk rock, for an innovative and edgy sound.
“Lattice”
The “Trellas” on the guitar call for a double take. Perhaps the coolest and laid back track on the album, Bad Bunny is stepping out of its comfort zone and drawing inspiration from the Spanish rock / alternative realm for that otherworldly tune. The song finds The bad bunny looking up and asking the stars for a sign, “Is there someone for me?”
“Sorry Papi”, with Abra
One of the three collaborations on this set is “Sorry Pari” with Abra, an independent artist from Los Angeles, whom Bad describes as “extremely talented” at creating her own beats and music. On this track, Bunny focuses on an alternative indie vibe more synth-pop. He sings about seducing a girl while she replies: “Sorry, papi / Yo no soy tu mami / Yo, yo hago lo que yo quiera / Y también tengo lo mío en la cartera”, letting her know that she is a Independent woman. “Sorry Papi” can easily become the uplifting sequel to “Yo Perreo Sola,” starring Nesi.
“Before it’s over”
This clean-lined alt-pop track is the anthem of 2020. As always, Bad Bunny continues to confess that before it all ends, he will live his life to die happy. In this ultra-personal piece, he repeats that he does what he wants. “Life is a movie and I am my own director.” Halfway through and towards the end, Bunny sprinkles a sweet reggaeton to the edgy track. Plus, this sample of Walter Mercado’s iconic phrase “and may they always receive from me peace, much peace, but above all much much much …Will really reach you and make you nostalgic. Exactly what Bad Bunny wants to do with this album: make us feel again.
