Spider-Man is one of the most iconic characters in Marvel Comics and as such people are quite familiar with his powers. The Wall Crawler’s basic abilities have been shown in comics, animated series, and live-action movies for decades. But there are powers of Spider-Man that fans may not be aware of.
Spider-Man has powers that he doesn’t use often or gains them under special circumstances that diminish or just go in the box for later. There are also many other versions of Spider-Man, from clones to alternate realities, which also have their own unique powers.
ten Spider-Man / Acid Spit Ability
The Spider-Man is a distracted version of Peter Parker, first triggered by a trip to Savage Land. Much later, Spidey fought against the queen, who could control the bugs. She also returned him to his spider form.
In Spider-Man: The Animated Series From the ’90s, which for the most part aged well (but in some cases not), the Spider-Man anime could spit acid and had increased stamina. These latent abilities theoretically remain dormant in Peter Parker until they are activated.

When they don’t, he recovers very quickly thanks to his healing factor. It’s usually a power that doesn’t get a lot of attention with Spider-Man, but it’s still there.
8 Sticky fingers can burn enemies too
Spider-Man is a lot of people these days. One of them is Kaine Parker, an evil clone of Peter Parker, one of the many new characters introduced in the infamous Clone Saga. Kaine had all of Peter’s basic abilities, such as his sticky fingers to crawl on walls.
Kaine took this to the next level. He used his fingers to burn, heal, and maim his enemies, sometimes even ripping off their skin. Later, Peter Parker would realize that he also had this terrifying potential.
seven Retractable Stingers
The storyline for “The Other” introduced some new powers to Spider-Man. One of them was stingers. As he said in the comics, darts aren’t really a thing with spiders, but he nonetheless developed a pair of dagger-shaped darts that project from each of his arms.
These stingers came during a major battle with the villainous Morlun, who had attacked Mary Jane. Peter’s anger and fear triggered the release of the stingers, which did not remain a permanent feature of his body.
6 Night vision
Another important ability developed by Spider-Man during the storyline for “The Other” was night vision. His vision had always been improved before (he didn’t really need glasses after the spider bites him) but it took him to the next level.
Spider-Man developed a vivid ability to see at night, represented as green sight, much like night vision from military goggles and weapons. These powers developed at a time when it seemed like the spider that bit Peter was less of a random lab accident and more of a mystical providence.
5 Can travel between several realities
One of the most interesting aspects of Spider-Man in recent years has been the introduction of the Spider-Verse. This concept radically redefined comics and based on the announcement that Electro’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 will appear in the third Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movie, the Spider-Verse may soon find its way into the MCU.
In the comics, it’s been revealed that Peter Parker and all of the Spider-Men and Women of the Spider-Verse are connected through the web, an interdimensional force that allows them to travel between realities.
4 Able to talk and control spiders
Another legacy of “The Other” is that Peter Parker can talk to spiders. This put Spider-Man on a par with Ant-Man, whose connection to ants is an important part of his character in the comics and movies. For Spider-Man, that was a big change, but not one that took a solid stance in the comics.
When the Queen attempted to destroy New York City by unleashing a horde of spiders on it, Spider-Man was able to deter them by communicating with them directly.
3 Camouflage around
Miles Morales, the Spider-Man from Earth-1610 (the Ultimate Comics universe), can camouflage himself in ways that no other Spider-Man really can. Miles has shown his ability to blend in with his surroundings, much like spiders will adapt colors and markings to blend in with theirs.
Miles has become an important part of the main Marvel Universe and the movies. With his recent video game release winning him more fans than ever before, there are plenty of Miles Morales stories for fans to catch up with him and his powers.
2 Spidey-Sense expands to truly see the future
Spidey-Sense is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic powers, and for many, possibly the most iconic. His ability to sense danger the fate of a lot of jams against supervillains. But in recent years, he’s discovered that this sixth sense is actually more extensive than he thought.
On a few occasions, Spider-Man has been able to see the future. However, he really has no control over it. It’s an ability with which his clone, Kaine, seems to have more experience as his visions of the future have been so much deeper.
1 Very fast
Spider-Man is nimble and quick, way beyond any athlete, but it goes even further than that. Spider-Man will never win a race against The Flash, but he has super speed.
He uses this power pretty much all of the time, speeding through battles against many of his villains, or most of them both like the Sinister Six (though there are plenty of Spidey villains who don’t do not yet part of the Sinister Six). Its speed is exceptional, but in many cases it is not enough. His career is marked by several major failures to be fast enough, such as the tragic death of Gwen Stacy.
