ROANOKE, Virginia – Residents of a Roanoke apartment complex are homeless after a massive fire ravages the building.
First responders work to put out a second alarm fire at an apartment complex.
At 2:27 p.m., Roanoke Fire-EMS crews responded to Block 200 of Summit Way SW for a structural fire at the Summit at Roanoke apartment complex, located just off US 220, across from the Roanoke County border.
According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, everyone the first responders know and who were inside the building at the time of the fire have been safely evacuated.
Authorities said when dispatch received the 911 call regarding the fire, the building was already in the process of being evacuated.
A firefighter was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment for a minor injury, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS.
Roanoke Fire-EMS said ten units are affected and the Virginia Red Cross is working on the scene to help displaced residents.
