(CNN) – A small jet plane crashed at takeoff from the municipal airport in Oroville, California shortly before Wednesday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration announced.
The 10 people who were on board got away from the burning wreckage without being injured, the authorities said. Graphic Packaging International, a paper products company, confirmed that eight of its employees were on the plane.
The aircraft was a twin-engine Cessna Citation, the same model as the plane that crashed last week with Dale Earnhardt, son and his family on board.
The FAA said it is unclear why the pilot of the plane that crashed on Wednesday halted takeoff. After slipping to the end of the runway, the chartered plane lands on the grass and catches fire.
The plane, which never completely took off from the ground, was heading to the Portland, Oregon, international airport.
The Cessna Citation is made by Textron Aviation Inc., which manufactures general, business and military aircraft. The company told CNN that it had offered its help as part of the NTSB 's investigation into Wednesday' s crash.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. Typically, an investigation takes a year or more to determine the cause of an accident.
In 2018, there were 113 plane accidents worldwide and 102 the year before, according to the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives.
The municipal airport of Oroville, which extends over 300 hectares, has two runways and serves general aviation and commercial traffic, as well as experimental aircraft, according to its website. Oroville, with a population of just under 19,000, is located in the northern Sacramento Valley.
