With the year coming to a close, many gaming fans are thinking about the best games of 2020. While some titles have had the highest scores, like 5 Person Royal and The last of us passed 2, there have also been AAA and indie games that have flopped with fans and critics, and these have found themselves at the bottom of the pile, according to Metacritic.
Metacritic’s Best and Worst Games of the Year are determined by the ratings accumulated from January 1 through December 31 across all platforms. Hell Ranked twice in the top 10 of the year, both on PC and Nintendo Switch, for its overall success on both platforms. Indie games have a harder time ranking in the top ranks because their developers are often less well known, so they have more to prove against established developers and popular game series. While indie games like Hell and Among us may have gained popularity, there are just as many who scored extremely low.

There are many factors that can cause a game to score badly with fans and critics alike. Titles that fail to deliver a cohesive storyline, have poor gameplay mechanics, or lack something unique to stand out from other games tend to fall by the wayside. It’s hard for anyone to enjoy playing a game riddled with glitches and bugs or with controls so broken players can’t enjoy the experience. Here is the list, according to Metacritic, of the worst games of 2020.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 10 Elder Scrolls Blades (Switch)
Elder Scrolls Blades released for Nintendo Switch on May 14, giving Bethesda fans a chance to experience another title on the portable platform. However, fans encountered a less than astonishing port that seemed arduous and uninteresting. For gamers hoping for another Skyrim experience for the Nintendo Switch was not that, earning a Metacritic score of 42 to match the disappointment.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 9 Gleamlight (Switch)
In an era when side-scrolling games were very popular, thanks to titles like Ori and the Blind Forest and others, Gleamlight does everything but shine. Released August 20 on Nintendo Switch, Gleamlight failed to capture the charm or interest of others in the genre. With a boring storyline and a world with no things to do, Gleamlight scored a 42 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 8 Street Power Soccer (PS4)
There are a good number of sports video games on the market, which means new titles have to stand out from the crowd. Street football because the PS4 has managed to grab the attention of gamers, but not in a good way. The game sports some particularly dated graphics for a title released this year, and critics found the content boring and not quite worth its $ 30 price tag. He scored a 41 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 7 Tamarin (PS4)
Tamarind is a confusing game. While it seems like it should appeal to kids, with its adorable graphics and wide-eyed characters, it ends up taking a turn for destruction. Tamarind because the PS4 is pretty violent, with bugs carrying assault weapons and a monkey ready to murder them. This game could easily be purchased as a family title, only for its true nature to appear on screen. To top it off, the mechanics are broken which makes the gameplay frustrating. This surprisingly violent game scored a 40 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 6 Remothered: Broken Porcelain (PC)
The horror genre often struggles with games that are very hit and miss. Unfortunately, PCs Remothered: Broken porcelain was a fat miss. The game is marred by bugs and glitches, as well as a choppy pace. The biggest problem is that it just doesn’t stand out. In a genre with great competition, Broken porcelain did nothing to make it memorable for gamers. Between lack of originality and broken gameplay, he scored a 39 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 5 Arc of Alchemist (Switch)
Alchemist bow for the Nintendo Switch brings back the mid-2000s, and not in a good way. With other JRPGs constantly improving their graphics and gameplay, this game tragically failed. Its 3D models lacked the cute style sought by most fans of the genre, and its user interface is clunky and dated, so Alchemist bow is just a miserable game to watch. Critics found her story to be just as poorly done and to get a Metacritic score of 36. With so many more titles to choose from, fans better grabbed 5 Person Royal or Octopath traveler to meet their adventure needs.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 4 Fast & Furious Crossroads (PC)
Fast and furious crossroads because the PC has been harshly judged, both by Metacritic and on Steam, for its empty narrative and really bad controls. The game is an overall bust, with little to take away from the racing genre or be worth it. What really made this game a disappointment for fans, however, was its price: on Steam, the base price is $ 39.99. With such bad controls, critics found the game barely playable, Fast and furious crossroads got a 34 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 3 Dawn of Fear (PS4)
Dawn of fear for the PS4, that’s exactly what it looks like: another horror game. While the story itself isn’t terrible, broken mechanics – both for puzzles and combat – make the game a chore. With nothing to make it truly remarkable, Dawn of fear was drowned out by the best tracks in the genre, earning a 33 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: Remake # 2 XIII (Xbox One)
A reinvention of a game from 2003, XIII Remake was so bad that developer Microids apologized to those who bought it. The story deviates greatly from the original narrative, and critics have found it generally unappealing to play. XIII Remake scored a 32 on Metacritic.
Worst Metacritic Games of 2020: # 1 Tiny Racer (Switch)
Sitting at the bottom of the barrel for the 2020 games, it’s Little runner for the Nintendo Switch. This game, which is basically a low resolution car wreck, allows players to drive tiny cars on a racetrack. The game was called soulless and unfinished by critics, and several reviewers said it was a low point for Nintendo’s willingness to put anything into the Nintendo eShop. Sitting at a stale score of 29 points on Metacritic, Little runner will probably only be remembered for its lack of quality.
