11,000 ice cream cartons recalled because they may contain pieces of metal

A recall has been issued for more than 11,000 containers of Weis Markets ice cream products that could be contaminated with pieces of metal equipment, according to the FDA.

“Products can be contaminated with foreign material, especially parts of metal filling equipment,” the company said in a press release, adding that the foreign material could pose a choking hazard.

The 48-ounce containers were sold at 197 Weis Markets grocery stores located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and West Virginia. They have now been withdrawn from sale, the company said.

The product has an expiration date of October 21, 2020, located at the bottom of the container. Customers who have purchased the product can return it for a full refund.

Klein’s 3 Gallon Bulk Vanilla Ice Cream was not intended for retail sale. It was sold to a retail establishment in New York City and has been retired, the company said.

Additional ice cream products that were packaged the same day as the recalled items were stored in a warehouse and were not distributed, according to the company.
