12 injured in a trolley accident in Saint-Augustin, according to firefighters

ST. AUGUSTIN, Florida. – A dozen people were injured on Saturday when a cart overturned in Saint-Augustin, according to firefighters.

The St. Augustine Fire Department posted on Facebook saying 12 people had been taken to hospitals, but the status of those carried was not known.

St. Augustine Fire said its crews responded with several units of the St. Johns County fire department after the crash on St. Francis Street.

News4Jax was told by a source that at least one person had been airlifted to Orange Park Medical Center.

St. Augustine Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

A spokesperson said the car – operated by Old Town Trolley Tours – rolled onto its side while making a turn. No other vehicle or pedestrian was involved in the accident.

The general manager of the forklift company said they were grateful that none of the reported injuries were life threatening.

“Our prayers certainly go out to the families of our guests,” CEO Dave Chatterton said in a telephone interview. “We have been operating here in this city for 30 years and have one of the safest reputations in the country. This is what we do.

Chatterton said there would be an internal investigation into the causes of the crash.

“We are going to find out what happened so that it never happens again,” he said.
