12-year-old Texas boy accused of murder after shooting his younger brother

A 12-year-old boy was arrested in Texas for murder on Saturday after authorities said he shot his younger brother.

The 10-year-old victim was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Lt. Scott Spencer of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Spencer said MPs had found the boy after responding to a report that a shooting took place in a Conroe house on Saturday afternoon.

The boy was shot in the chest, he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the 10-year-old victim," Spencer said.

The sheriff's office announced that the 12-year-old had been charged with murder seven hours after the shooting.

The boy was detained in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center.

KTRK-TV reported that the boys' family had been shattered by death and arrest.

The family would not comment, but they said it was an unspeakable tragedy, reported the station.
