13 hidden iOS 13 features you did not know

The first beta version of iOS 13 has been released for almost two weeks. Let's take a look at some of the hidden features you may not know.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth access in the Control Center

In previous versions of iOS, to connect to other Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections, you must access Settings and access Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings. In iOS 13, you can now access this list via Control Center by holding down the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth icon.

New extended response menu and formatting in Mail

In the Mail Stock application, when you reply to an email, you now have a new extended response menu that gives you options to reply, forward, or delete. As well as the possibility to mute or warn you in case of new e-mail of this specific contact. Another novelty is the possibility of formatting your text. You can change the font, enlarge the text, adjust the alignment, change the color and add chips. All these new features make the Mail application much more powerful.

Full screen screenshots in Safari

Like on iPadOS, with iOS13 on an iPhone, you can now capture a complete webpage on which you can annotate and save it directly to PDF, or share it with your contacts using the new sharing window. If you have a keyboard connected, Command + S will also save an entire page in PDF format.

Silence Unknown Callers

The novelty of iOS13 is the ability to silence unknown callers. So when a robo call comes in, your phone automatically turns it off and sends it to voicemail.

Zip and Unzip application in Files

With the new Files app, you can also zip and uncompress files directly from your iOS device without the need to use macOS. When you're done, you can transfer these files to your iOS device.

This is very convenient for those who strictly use an iPad as the main computer and do not want to download a third-party application for this particular task.

New search in the application Messages

In Messages, you have a new way to search in the application. This will give you suggestions of contacts, links that people have shared with you, and pictures that they have sent to you.

Pinch to zoom Voice Memos

If you're a big user of voice memos, you can pinch to zoom in on the Voice Memos application, which lets you zoom in on the waveform to help you edit your recordings much more easily.

Download Manager in Safari

In iOS13, when you download a file from Safari, you have access to a download manager or list containing the files you downloaded, similar to the one you would get from MacOS Safari. And this synchronizes with the new Files application where you can see all your downloaded files.

Optimize the battery charge

The optimized battery charge uses machine learning algorithms to familiarize you with your daily charging routine, so your iPhone can wait for the charge to finish beyond 80% before using it. If you wake up normally at 6am on weekdays, your iPhone will only charge 80% of the night, then about 30 minutes before you wake up, it will complete the rest of your phone. In this way, it helps protect the longevity of your battery by not constantly charging it to 100% and not holding it there.

Mouse support

Under Accessibility in Assistive Touch, it is now possible to add a wireless mouse or trackpad to iOS. You can use it to scroll through a document or web page and interact with the entire operating system.

This is certainly not perfect, and it 's not something that most people should use regularly, but it' s nice to have that option.

Low data mode

In Cellular settings, you now have the option to switch to Low Data mode, which should help applications use less data. Apple does not know exactly how it works, but it seems that it suspends activity in the background when you're not connected to Wi-Fi.

Peek and Pop without 3D Touch

iOS 13 gives us a more accurate picture of Apple's projects for non-3D Touch compatible iPhones. Previously, only iPhones with 3D Touch could use Peek and Pop. On the iPhone XR or any iPad under iOS 13, you can now long press to access Peek and Pop.

Haptic feedback for FaceID

A new subtle feature that you can enable under accessibility in Face ID is a haptic feedback when you unlock your iPhone. It's a subtle gesture when the phone authenticates your face, and it's really nice to let you know that you can slide and unlock the phone.

These are just some of the best features hidden on iOS 13 Beta one that you may not know. This is not the final version of iOS 13, so we will probably see some changes and more features as we approach the release.
