Hailey Mia said she has been waiting a long time to audition for NBC’s “The Voice”.

Now finally old enough, the 13-year-old Clifton had her chance Monday night and didn’t waste it, winning two blind audition chair rounds from superstar trainers Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande for her mighty interpretation of Tate McRae’s 2020 success “You broke me first.

Once Hailey was done and was able to speak to the coaches, deciding to join Team Kelly or Team Ariana, Clarkson and Grande were stunned by her young age.

“I literally thought I was turning around for a 24-year-old,” Clarkson said. “I love that you have that belt power, but you also had the control you needed in the verse. You can really sing whatever you want with that kind of power. Wow, I’m so excited you are. the.

Another trainer, John Legend, added, “Your voice connects with the audience in a really great way.”

Grande added, “I think you are a phenomenal singer and I could tell you were young, but not that young. With more vocals on the show, these moments are going to help you grow taller and have even more control and understanding of when you want to make your vibrato really wide and when you want to keep it close and intimate. You will just continue to flourish and I would love to help you achieve that.

Grande’s lyrics won over Hailey, as she chose the pop nobleman as her trainer. She’ll be singing again in a few weeks, once the blind auditions are over and the fight rounds have started.

Season 21 of “The Voice” premiered on September 20.
