140,000 without electricity as storms ravage Michigan

Nearly 140,000 Michigan customers are without power this morning after storms hit the Detroit area on Saturday night.

Fierce storms swept through the Detroit metro area and led to tornado surveillance in other areas, including ABC News affiliate Armada, WXYZ reported.

In the wake of the storm, trees, homes and businesses suffered extensive damage.

“It looks like there has been a tornado, we have to wait for the authorities to make that decision,” Macomb County Director Mark Hackel told WXYZ.

The Detroit Police Department issued an alert to area residents, warning them that the roads were flooded and not to cross the backwaters.

The storm comes amid a tumultuous weather season in the United States as wildfires and drought ravage the west, and unprecedented rainfall and flooding plague the northeast and other parts of the country. country.
