Even at a weekend without a ranking match, the third week of the college football season was rich in emotions and incredible performances for fans.
It was an exceptional week for the halfbacks and quarterbacks. The action started early with some breathtaking performances on Friday night and continued until Saturday with even more amazing outings.
Heisman Trophy contenders who offered the best of their time to the non-advertised names that offered their decisive moment, this week offered everything fans could wish for. Here are the 15 most breathtaking performances of the third week of college football.
Khalil Herbert, running back, Kansas Jayhawks

Nearly 11 years after Kansas won their last game on the road against a Power 5 opponent, Herbert set the stage for a sensational victory on Friday night. Kansas' backhander turned Boston College's defense into grated cheese in just 11 races.
Herbert's first two riders accumulated two yards and he had no real chance of getting into the second quarter. A superb 82-yard run with less than 30 seconds to go in the half gave Kansas a chance to score before half-time. Herbert completed his special night with a six-yard touchdown run to seal the surprise and his phenomenal 187-yard match.
J.K. Dobbins, running back, Ohio State Buckeyes

While quarterback Justin Fields catches the most attention of the season, Dobbins is the Ohio State's most important offensive player. The Buckeyes first went through Dobbins, and he explained why Saturday.
The talented junior devastated Indiana's defense every time he touched the football. Dobbins could not be denied extra yards and he always fought to the last. He finished the day with 193 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a phenomenal performance that captured his greatness.
Michael Warren II, running back, Cincinnati Bearcats

After being eliminated from the field by Ohio State in the second week, Warren II expressed his frustration with the defense of Miami-Ohio this weekend. Even with Cincinnati still engaged in a recoil per committee approach, he dominated.
Warren II crossed the RedHawks defense by making numerous saves in the end zone. The young lady had 158 total yards on 17 hits and added three quick scores for good in an easy 35-13 win.
Chris Robison, quarterback, owls from Atlantic to Florida

Lane Kiffin's program desperately needed a spark after a 0-2 start in 2019. Robison has achieved a phenomenal performance that, he hopes, is a sign of improving the quality of his program.
Florida Atlantic's second quarterback treated the Ball State side as if he did not even exist. Robison completed 33 pass attempts out of 41 for a total of 366 yards and caused most of the damage in three quarters. Whenever you can throw almost as many touchdowns (four) as incomplete (eight), this is a sign of a breathtaking feat.
Laviska Shenault Jr., wide receiver, Colorado Buffaloes

Colorado took too long to start feeding Shenault Jr. in 2019. The Buffaloes finally made him a star player on Saturday, and he rewarded them with a sensational performance.
Shenault Jr. pitched things in style by sending three defensemen in a 42-yard touchdown. Colorado continued to feed after that, making eight catches for 124 rushing yards, a peak in the season. The Colorado playmaker added 25 yards rushing and a draw in the fourth quarter to a good extent.
Tua Tagovailoa, quarterback, Alabama Crimson Tide

It seems that we have no more adjectives to describe the size of Tagovailoa. Even when Tagovailoa faces competition from the SEC, every big throw looks like a routine for one of the country's best quarterbacks.
Tagovailoa threw for 444 yards with five touchdowns in less than four quarters of work and set a school record with the eighth game of more than four of his career. He needed a big game to revive his Heisman Trophy campaign. With the help of Henry Ruggs and Najee Harris, he easily accomplished this in the third week.
Malcolm Perry, quarterback, Navy aspirants

The Navy's three-way attack is already dangerous with Perry at quarter and a week to prepare. Giving aspirants a two-week period to stage explosive games for Perry is simply unfair. Perry made sure that East Carolina remembers him on Saturday.
The contenders ransacked the Pirates defense behind Perry's 156 rushing yards, 151 yards rushing and six touchdowns in total. The Navy offense scored 87 points in two games this year, and it can last the fireworks in the fourth week against Memphis.
Chuba Hubbard, running back, Cowboys of Oklahoma State

Maybe Hubbard used week 2 to rest. The second-year star of Oklahoma State was selected at Week 3 and proved that his staggering performance in Week 1 was not a fluke.
Hubbard made the bulk of his damage in the first quarter with 139 yards rushing, a 75-yard scamper on the first coinand two trips to the end zone. He continued his momentum for the rest of the match with a big run after the other to record his second game of over 200 yards, finishing with 256 yards and three touchdowns.
Ian Book, quarterback, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

A year after Book began to dominate Notre Dame's quarterback, he delivered one of his best college performances in the third week.
He scored one point early in the second quarter and added three touchdowns during the period. Book finished his stellar run with 360 yards passing, 46 yards rushing, six touchdowns and took a seat with a 52-7 lead before the end of the third quarter.
Jaylond Adams, wide receiver, Golden Eagles South Mississippi

While innumerable other clashes attracted the attention of everyone across the country, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a shootout with Troy on Saturday night. Some players on both sides delivered incredible stats, but one was above the others.
Adams just destroyed Troy when he took the field in attack. The sophomore competed in 11 receptions for 180 yards and kept free spots in the defense. Adams also excelled in the special teams with a 100-yard return touchdown. If he can stay healthy a whole season, he will display big numbers.
Dillon Gabriel, quarterback, Knights of Central Florida

Central Florida entered the summer hoping that Brandon Wimbush or Darriel Mack would become a temporary and reliable replacement for McKenzie Milton. A few months later, Gabriel encourages fans to forget their former star.
Gabriel took the field with a chance to help win UCF's biggest win in years. He did more than prove that this team deserved greater national recognition. Gabriel showed that he was the future of UCF. He pitched for 186 yards with three points in the first quarter only. He's a big heat and his 347-yard touchdown would have been even better if UCF had not shut out Stanford in a single semester.
Tyler Johnson, wide catcher, Golden Gophers of Minnesota

In a week when multiple recipients across the country have accumulated a large number of voices, Johnson has found a unique way to distinguish himself from others. Although each touch is exciting, a winning touch is the jewel of the scores.
Of course, touchdowns are not the only mark of Johnson's dominance. He led his team with 10 receptions for 140 yards and a lot of early domination. One receiver had a chance in the closing seconds, and Johnson Randy Moss-esque touchdown grab literally won the game for the Golden Gophers.
LeVante Bellamy, half in-depth, Broncos from West Michigan

Most of the time, a 150-yard touchdown performance would be enough to make a U-turn on the list of breathtaking performances. It was not enough in week 3 thanks to games like this one.
Bellamy faced the Georgia State defense and quickly pushed his opponent off the field. The senior Western Michigan midfielder had just 15 assists in Saturday's win and made it 192 yards and three goals. We could easily have attended a game over 250 yards if the Broncos had not rested Bellamy in the second half.
Kaleb Barker, quarterback, Troy Trojans

While Troy failed in a thrilling battle with Southern Miss, Barker made one of the best quarterbacks of the season. The main signaler came back from a deficit of 33-21 in the fourth quarter and seemed to respond to all touchdowns by Southern Miss. Barker has only delivered the second 500-yard match in college football this season with four touchdowns and a 196.6 score to be recognized for one of the best performances this weekend.
Jalen Hurts, quarterback, Oklahoma Sooners

Hurts has surely heard that his former teammate was back in the Heisman race. The phenomenal quarterback of Oklahoma saw an opportunity to reduce UCLA's defense and seize it.
Sooners' hopeful Heisman kicked off the game with an impressive 30-yard touchdown pass in the fourth attempt to take a quick lead. Hurts burned UCLA high school with his arm behind a 289-yard, three-touch game and crushed his goal on seven forward with 150 yards rushing and a touchdown. He is the best player in the country at the moment and this will only continue against Texas Tech.
