SPRINGFIELD, Virginia (FOX 5 DC) – Two people have died and 18 have been hospitalized due to a respiratory virus outbreak in a retiree community in Fairfax County, officials said.
According to the Fairfax County Health Department, 54 people in total were exposed to the outbreak – all in the life support and skilled nursing sections of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield.
The health department said that the facility had quarantined the affected sections and that there had been no new cases of patients requiring hospitalization within two days.
They added that the Greenspring retiree community had not allowed newcomers to their facilities since the outbreak.
The health department says it believes that the institution is doing everything in its power to contain the epidemic.
