ROGERS, Ark. (AP) – Two Arkansas men suspected of serious assault were arrested after the police said they had shot at each other while taking turns wearing a bulletproof vest.

The Democratic Gazette of Northwest Arkansas reports that Charles Ferris, 50, and Christopher Hicks, 36, were arrested on Monday.

A police affidavit claims that the two men are neighbors and were drinking on a bridge on Sunday when Ferris ordered Hicks to shoot him with a 22-caliber rifle while Ferris was wearing the vest. The affidavit indicates that the shot left a red mark on Ferris' chest and that he was angry because it hurt him.

The affidavit indicates that Hicks then donned the vest and that Ferris "unloaded the clip" on his back, causing bruising but no serious injury.

The court records do not mention any lawyer who could speak on behalf of one or the other man.
