Thousands of polar divers have earned more than $ 2 million in charitable donations to dive into the low temperatures of the Atlantic Ocean near Seaside Heights on Saturday.

The annual event also attracts thousands of spectators and encourages participants.

Participants were allowed to queue on the beach at 12:20 pm for the 13 hour departure.

The crowd is encouraged by a special Olympian before the start.
