My dear compatriots, a silent tragedy is played every day in this country. Across our beautiful country, 6.5 million of our brothers and sisters suffer every day in the shadows. But now that their plight has been brought to our attention, we can no longer ignore this frightening reality: 2% of Americans have never eaten taco. What can we do to reduce this disturbing statistic? Do not ask what your country can do for you, ask your friends to make sure they have already eaten a taco. I propose a national program of Taco Wellness checks.

The poignant statistic is provided by food brand Ortega, who commissioned a survey of more than 8,600 Americans on behalf of Suzy, asking them what their preferences were for tacos. We will get a little bit of results on the fillings and styles of tortillas, but the most shocking figure is that of the 2% of people who say they have never eaten taco. [Outkast voice] Never, never, never?

Last summer, my family was on vacation in Florida with Oma, 87 years old. After my brother, I and our family finished our fishing trip successfully, we went home and rented fresh fish tacos for everyone. My Oma claimed, hand to God, she had never eaten before a taco. I still find it hard to believe – just … how? -But she seemed really puzzled by the tortillas. She asked us how a person assembles and eats a taco.

That my Oma is not alone in his ignorance taco is shocking. What is less shocking is that Arizona is the most consumer-consuming state of the country's tacos and among Americans who have eaten tacos, a majority (53%) prefer soft shells to hard shells. Bravo. Cheese rated as top taco most states-topping come guys, salsa! But no matter how you use your taco or the tortillas you use, be sure to convey the love of taco to your friends and family. The only thing worse than a boring taco is not taco at all.
