2 pigs in therapy are found beaten to death

Howell raises three belly-bellied pigs as emotional support animals for members of his Kentucky community. They regularly visited people in hospitals and retirement homes.

When she went to give them some leftovers after dinner on June 6, she discovered that two of them were dead – probably beaten, she told WLKY, a CNN affiliate. One of them had a broken orbit and blood was coming out of his ear. The face of the other was depressed and covered with blood.

"They never fought," Howell told CNN. "If they did it already, they would be removed from the program, so I know in my heart that they did not fight."

The third pig is unscathed but frightened

Howell told CNN that she thought the author might be a neighbor. In the past, some complained about his pigs near the city. She added that last year, two birds had been stolen from her garden, but six hours later, after reporting to them that they had a lawyer.

The third pig, named Gypsy, is unscathed, but still scared and acting differently since the incident, shared Howell on Facebook.

"They did not deserve to die as brutally as that," she said. "They were sweet and loved by many."

The therapy program will be put on hold

The most difficult part, she told CNN, was to explain the situation to the children who would visit the pigs. And with only one pig remaining, Howell said in a Facebook video that she will have to suspend her therapy program for a while.

Howell has filed a police report and offers a reward for any information on the person who killed his pigs.

"We will not stop looking until we catch that sick person," she posted on Facebook. "We want this person or people to be punished and we want to put them on fire so that everyone knows who has done these things to them."
