Twin Cities Metro Transit police officers were put on leave after a man they arrested burned himself in the back of a squad car and was seriously injured.

Metro spokesman Howie Padilla told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the man was arrested Sunday morning as part of a criminal investigation near the US Stadium light rail station.

A report from the Minneapolis Fire Department says the man suffered "burns to the skin of the torso after" burning his clothes with a lighter.

Padilla says that the man, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to the hospital for treatment. The fire department report says that a Metro Transit officer was lightly burned by pulling him out of his squad's car.

The unnamed officers were put on standard administrative leave while the state's Office of Criminal Apprehension investigated.
