2 Spirit agents injured, passengers arrested after baggage dispute in Detroit, airline says

Officers attempted to defuse the situation but were “physically assaulted” as they closed a door to prevent passengers from boarding, Spirit officials said.

One of the officers was taken to a nearby hospital after the incident, airline officials said.

“At Spirit, we all wish the officers a speedy recovery and thank them for their courage and professionalism,” the airline said in a statement. “We also thank the security forces for reacting quickly and for arresting those involved in the attack. This violent behavior is totally unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business. We will not tolerate any abusive behavior of any kind and these passengers will be barred from all future travel with Spirit. Other questions regarding this incident should be directed to law enforcement. “

Spirit later released an update that said two passengers were arrested while the third was cited and released.
