A 2-year-old boy was punched in the face by a violent beggar on a Manhattan subway train – just the latest in a recent spike in transit violence, police and law enforcement sources said on Sunday .
The toddler was sitting on his mother’s lap on a northbound C train on Douglas Boulevard and West 116th Street in Manhattan shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday when a beggar woman walked between the car doors and started asking for help. money to passengers, cops and sources say.
“Can you please say 6 feet?” the boy’s mother asked the beggar, sources told the Post.
The suspect then stepped on the mother’s left foot, sources said.
When the mother asked her: “Why did you walk me?” the suspect started punching, hitting the 2-year-old, sources said.
A witness told police they had to remove the suspect from the mother and child – who had suffered slight visible injuries to the face and ear, sources said.
The attacker, described as in his 40s, fled the train when he arrived at the station, police said.
The injured child was taken to Mount Sinai-Saint Luke Hospital by ambulance for treatment, police sources said. He has since been released, according to sources.
The suspect was described as a heavy woman with a tattoo on her neck and a buzzcut who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, faded jeans, boots and a white mask, according to sources.
The incident was just one of a series of disturbing recent rail crimes, including a horrific spree of random cuts on Line A earlier this month that left two people dead and two others injured.
