Angel Cabrera, winner of the 2007 US Open and the 2009 Masters, has been arrested in Brazil and will be extradited to his native Argentina to face multiple crimes, Brazilian authorities said.

Cabrera was arrested in an affluent neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro without his name being mentioned, and two Brazilian federal officers confirmed he was a golfer to The Associated Press. The 51-year-old was on Interpol’s code red list.

The suspect has been charged in Argentina with assault, theft, unlawful intimidation and repeated disrespect for authorities, police said in a statement.

According to Argentine media, Cabrera’s ex-wife, Silva Rivadero, has filed a complaint against the golfer. Reports also said that Cecilia Torres, another former partner, claimed Cabrera hit her and attempted to run over her with a car in 2016.

Rivadero’s lawyer Carlos Nayji told Argentine media earlier this month that Cabrera was “a danger to all of society”.

Cabrera is one of South America’s most accomplished golfers of all time. He beat Tiger Woods in one stroke at the 2007 US Open and won the Masters in the 2009 playoffs against Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry. He has not won any other major tournament during his professional golfer career.

He has another victory on the PGA Tour and five on the European Tour.
