The second day of the 2019 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft is underway. The 40-round event began Monday night with a live broadcast of the MLB network. Here is the full order draft of 2019, and we have all the results from Day 1 below. After losing 115 games in 2018, the Baltimore Orioles held the top pick in this year's draft and they used choice # 1 on Oregon State's Adley Rutschman receiver. Rutschman is the first receiver selected for the first time overall since Joe Mauer in 2001.
Bobby Witt Jr., son of Bobby Sr, a long-time major league thrower, went to the Royals with No. 2 pick. The White Sox used the No. 3 pick on Cal Masher, Andrew Vaughn. Rutschman, Witt and Vaughn are the top three of the best we've seen in recent drafts. We have plenty take away food Day 1 of the repechage, and our best players available for Day 2.
The entire MLB project covers 40 rounds – there were 100 of them before – and it is important to note that each team had a first round pick this year, with the exception of the Red Sox. Their first-round pick was dropped 10 places (# 33 to # 43) as part of the penalty for excessive luxury tax spending last season.
