2019 NFL Draft: Everything you need to know about the first round, including notes, takeaways and more

The 2019 NFL Draft finally started on Thursday night and it was certainly a memorable night for many fan bases. The first round started with the Cardinals who finally answered the biggest mystery of the off season by choosing Kyler Murray, which means Josh Rosen should be moving soon. Among the most notable early selections are the Raiders taking the best of Clelin Ferrell in 4th place and the Giants picking quarterback Daniel Jones in 6th place, both of which can be described as assists.

Round 1

NFL Senior Editor Pete Prisco provided his notes and analysis for each first-round selection. It is therefore fair to say that some teams have made some remarkable choices while others have fallen flat. Prisco only distributed an A + at night, and it went to … the dolphins! Here's what he wrote about their selection of Christian Wilkins at # 13.

This is my favorite choice from the entire project up to now. I love this choice. I think this kid is going to be a star. I was everywhere on Grady Jarrett when he was chosen and I think Wilkins could be even better. This is a good asset for Brian Flores and his staff.

You can probably guess which team got the worst score of the night. Here is what Prisco had to say about the Giants looking for a new quarter by taking Daniel Jones in 6th place:

I wanted to give this choice an "F." I like Daniel Jones, but I just do not like it at this place. They surely learned that another team was going to take her before 5 pm. I like it, but not at number 6. It's a strange choice so early.

To take away from the night

If you do not want to browse all the tweets of the live blog below, go to editor of the project Chris Trapasso of the first round, where he gave his instant analysis on each selection, as it happened.

While many thought that Clelin Ferrell's choice at # 4 was at hand, Trapasso told Raiders fans not to worry:

We should have seen it coming, the first big surprise of the night was via Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock. I love Clelin Ferrell. I really do. I had it in the middle of the first round of my Big Board. In front of Josh Allen from Kentucky. In front of Brian Burns of Florida State.

Why? Because Ferrell can beat you in many ways. It's huge once you get to the NFL level. Allen's pass-through moves are lacking. Burns must add weight and strength.

Ferrell has a legitimate defensive final size of the NFL and several high-profile production seasons as part of a major program. He has long arms that he uses well in every race, is a leading player against the race and has really started to show an advanced arsenal of passing moves in his last season at Clemson. My comparison for him is Chandler Jones.

As my number 3 absolute in this category, I do not think it's too early, unless the Raiders could have drafted Ferrell 24th and no guarantee is given.
