The Acadia 2020 update begins with a new front and rear exterior design. The new enlarged grille of the SUV seems to have been borrowed directly from the Sierra and Sierra HD vans and is flanked by new standard LED headlights and GMC's elongated C-shaped light signatures. At the rear, the taillights also benefit from the C-shaped LED treatment. The remodeled fascias give the SUV a more vertical and robust appearance, although its profile remains largely unchanged.

Behind this new rugged grille, Acadia will be available with a new 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine producing an estimated power of 230 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The new engine will incorporate GMC's valve train and variable lift valve and cylinder deactivation technology – which can deactivate two of the four cylinders under light load conditions – to improve fuel efficiency, but last year's estimates kilometer per gallon have not yet been released.

The new 2.0T will fit between the Acadia's 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (193 horsepower, 188 pounds of torque) and the 3.6-liter V6 (310 horsepower, 271 lb), which continues the last year model. The three engine offerings will feature stop / start fuel saving technology and will come standard with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox is controlled via GMC's "Electronic Precision Shift", a push-button selector that replaces the previous generation gear lever, freeing up space in the cab and center console.

The 2020 model year will also see the introduction of a new level of finishing Acadia AT4 with a more rugged and aggressive outdoor style.
