Last year’s Emmys were their own brand of weirdo. There were presenters in hazmat suits, rumors of a Zoom after-party, and Jennifer Aniston putting out a garbage can fire – a little on the nose, but okay! Thankfully, the awards show had (mostly) reverted to its usual shenanigans for the 2021 Emmys on Sunday night.

There were skits and skits galore at this year’s awards show. We had Rita Wilson rapping, an appearance by Dr Phil, and a brief Met Gala Horse Girls tribute. We are truly in the golden age of television!

Below are some of the best, worst, and strangest moments of the night.

Bowen Yangs Boots! Josh O’Connor’s little floral bow tie! Billy Porter… everything! Love a man who really does something with his red carpet look.

As usual, the Emmys opened with all the famous people doing a fun little skit. This year it was a pandemic-themed TV parody of Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend”. What else to say besides… why?

Everyone’s favorite ceramicist Seth Rogen looked like a handsome pumpkin and spice man at the 2021 Emmy Awards. As the sole voice of the reason for the ceremony, he did what no one else did. been brave enough to do: ask why so many people were in the same room, * gesturing wild * all this.

Williams, who died just a few weeks ago, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his performance in Lovecraft Country. Although he did not win, Washington paid tribute to the late actor by presenting the nominees for the award. “Michael was – it’s crazy to say ‘was’ – a brilliantly talented actor and a generous human being who passed away far too soon,” Washington said. “Michael, I know you’re here because you wouldn’t miss it.” Your excellence will endure. We love you.”

Easttown mare The Peters star won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Film. Me, a bit like that of Peters american horror story co-star Sarah Paulson, was very excited. I would watch this man scream happily, “KATE WINSLET” any day.

While everyone’s favorite Tall Horse Boy didn’t attend Sunday night’s awards show, he was there in spirit. While accepting the award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, the writers of Last week tonight with John Oliver does what we would all do if we were given a microphone on live tv: speak directly to Adam Driver. “We would like to dedicate this award to Adam Driver,” said writer Chrissy Shackelford. “He knows what he’s done – and we know what we’d like him to do.”

Its simple existence deserves to be celebrated. But the White lotus the actress gave us more than we deserved when presenting the award for the lead actor in a comedy series. First of all, she congratulated all the nominees for their ability to “overcome the handicap… to be men”. Then, she launched a warm “Good way, gentlemen, wherever you are!” “

Winning the award for Best Reality Competition Series, RuPaul broke the record for Emmys won by a person of color, earning his 11th Emmy on Sunday night. Shantay, you stay!

Winning the award for best actress in a limited series or a movie for her role in Easttown mare, Winslet thanked fellow nominees, acknowledging the importance of “women supporting each other”. She also thanked series creator Brad Inglesby for creating a “middle aged, flawed and imperfect mother,” adding, “you made us all feel validated, honestly.” You are indeed the winner, Kate.

Some speeches, like Winslet’s, are good! Others are… to this man.

The Hacks star won her fourth Emmy tonight. If you haven’t seen her in Watchmen, at least you have to watch her marvel at this giant metallic blue dildo from the show.

The star, writer and creator of I can destroy you received long-awaited recognition on Sunday evening. In her brief but impactful speech, she urged others to “write down what scares you”. She added, “Don’t be afraid to disappear from her, from us, for a while and see what comes to you in silence.” Coel ended by saying, “I dedicate this story to every survivor of sexual assault. Thank you, ”she said.
