2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Easter egg discovered

While You’re here seems to have all the credit lately, the automakers have left Easter eggs features on cars forever. Do not be left in the dust by the Jeep wagoneer with his map of Detroit in the canopy or in Tesla pet mode, the new Ford Mustang Mach-E gets a secret too.

The Easter egg appears to have been first reported by Teslarati.com last week, but Jalopnik reader James uploaded his own photos of the feature he privately discovered during a pre-delivery inspection for work at a Ford dealership in Wisconsin.

The photos show a line of text printed in the metal housing of the Mach-E electric motor that read “Electric Ponies Live Here,” as a nod to the tenuous connection of this all-electric street-cruising crossover to the car. iconic sport Mustang.

I would like to think that Ford must have printed the message on the outside of the engine crankcase to help its dealership service staff recognize that something about this car was different than what they were used to and to do Warning. But I doubt that is true.

The new Mach-E is offered in three powertrain configurations. A large 282 horsepower electric motor is mounted on the rear axle for rear traction. A large motor at the rear can be combined with a smaller 67 HP electric motor on the front axle to provide all-wheel drive. The high-performance option of two large engines offers all-wheel drive and combined power totaling up to 480 hp.

James says it’s the first and only Easter Egg he’s spotted on the Mach-E so far, and there doesn’t seem to be any reports of the others if they exist. Motor Trend highlights The Mach-E’s interior display volume control knob is a bit of an Easter egg, as it tricks the user into thinking it’s a working dial when not actually connected to anything.

But I’m not sure it matters. I like to hunt my Easter eggs and be surprised when I find them, you know, like the “hunt.” Like what Ford did here. I wish the Mach-E Egg was little more than an engine text, however. Like maybe a really big horse hiding under the trunk floor or something.
