The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 2021 is an unusual and intriguing proposition. This is a family size vehicle with an optional third row, all in a relatively small footprint. Proportionately, it looks like a European passenger van – think VW Touran – but looks more like an SUV. And with 302 horsepower a 2.0-liter turbo-four and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, it has the transmission of a hot hatch. We do not really know what to do with the GLB 35, but we love its strange character, unique nature and sneaky performance.
The GLB, launched earlier this year, seems to match Mercedes-Benz's quest to create as many vehicle niches as it can dream of (a motive apparently shared by BMW). The brand currently offers eight different SUV models, with an AMG sub-variant of each. The GLB seems to bridge the gap between GLA hatchback-esque and the largest GLC (at least in alphabetical order). The more powerful AMG 35 variant, announced today, is inscribed in the intermediate line between ordinary Mercedes models and AMG fire-breathing enthusiasts.
Oh, and this AMG hatch-van-SUV car makes 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and can hit 155 mph in a plumb, according to Mercedes. Is this an answer to a question that nobody asked? Perhaps. But a family three-row vehicle offering this kind of performance seems like fun.
The GLB uses the same front-wheel drive architecture as the new A-Class, with a cross-engine configuration maximizing passenger and cargo space. As could be expected, the GLB 35 is equipped with all-wheel drive, offering a variable torque distribution between the two axles, with a deflection of up to 50% towards the rear in both directions. certain situations. The GLB 35 also features a unique suspension hardware, designed by AMG. Adaptive dampers are available as an option.

As it is a 2021 model car, Mercedes claims that the GLB 35 will end up at US dealers in late 2020. As to whether AMG will manufacture a GLB 45 of more than 400 hp, the photos of Spying indicate that it is a very real possibility. Mercedes employees have not yet met a niche they do not want to occupy.
