It was all in the National League during the 2021 SiriusXM Future All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field in Denver. The Senior Tour came away with an unbalanced 8-3 victory, led by a two-home run for Cubs prospect Brennen Davis. Mets’ No.1 prospect Francisco Álvarez also went deep. Nine NL pitchers combined to slow the AHL, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out 10 on catches.
Rules
The Futures Game moved to an American League-National League format in 2019. It had previously split the two teams between the American and World teams. It is also expected to play seven innings in the new system, although the 2019 edition had eight in a possible 2-2 tie.
The best prospects to watch out for
It’s called a prospect showcase for a reason. More than 30 of MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects were on Futures Game lists out of the 50 total participants from both teams.
This included the two most recent No. 1 draft picks from wide receiver Adley Rutschman (Orioles) and corner infielder Spencer Torkelson (Tigers), currently ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in baseball behind only the player from the major league Wander Franco. Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic (No.4) and Julio Rodríguez (No.5) round out the Top 5 representation, and it’s worth noting that all four in that group will be suitable for the American League.
That said, NL had the top four pitching prospects in this year’s Futures Game with No.20 Max Meyer (Marlins), No.27 Matthew Liberatore (Cardinals), No.37 Quinn Priester (Pirates) and n ° 43 Nick Lodolo (red).

Both coaching teams had an obvious flavor of the Rockies at the top for this year’s event in Denver. Vinny Castilla, who ranks third in franchise history with 239 home runs, managed the National League roster this year while LaTroy Hawkins, who played 143 games for Colorado in three seasons, was skipper. AL. Also of note, Yankees Minor League hitting coach Rachel Balkovec played the same role for the AL, making her the first woman to coach in Futures Game history. Five-time All-Star Andruw Jones was the National League hitting coach.

Which future gamers are at the dawn of the majors?
The “future” part of the equation could always be short term. In fact, Vidal Bruján and Jake Burger both reached the Majors after initially being named to the American League roster. Of those who remain, Jarred Kelenic (Mariners), Jose Barrero (Reds) and Luis Campusano (Padres) have already seen the Majors themselves and could return to The Show at any time in the second half.
