The grief has to end at some point, right? But every few years, the Detroit Lions find themselves rebuilding from the ground up. It’s a tenuous and predictable cycle, but hopefully it ends here. This 2021 mock 7-round NFL draft from the Lions attempts to shake up a new era.

There is a number of promising candidates be the next Lions head coach. Native to Southeast Michigan Robert saleh is a favorite, but the Lions also interviewed Eric Bieniemy, Darrell Bevell and Marvin Lewis. They also requested interviews from Dan Campbell and Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

The Lions need to recruit this head coach properly, but they also need to top the roster with talent and make a crucial quarterback decision as the team once again turns a new leaf. With just five picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, Detroit may want to take a few steps to gain more Day 3 picks. 2021 NFL Mock Draft Selection-by-Selection Analysis

Justin Fields, QB, State of Ohio

It’s painful for Lions fans to come to terms with a reality where Matthew Stafford’s career in Detroit is ruined, but reality evolves that way. Despite the constant production of the underrated quarterback, the dysfunction around him has borne little fruit. Now, at nearly 33 with a long list of injuries behind him, Stafford and the Lions are likely in need of a fresh start.

Lions can offload Stafford in a number of ways, but we’re not here to talk about them. We’re here to talk about who might be his replacement. With the seventh pick, the Lions are on the line for a quarterback. They might need to trade, as the 2021 quarterback class is strong at the top. But they have a better positioning than the other teams in need, at least after the first two. That’s clear: if one of the top three quarterbacks is there, they need to pull the trigger.

In this mock 7-round Lions draft, Ohio State QB Justin fields fell to the 7th overall pick. The fields would be a great value here, and it’s also worth swapping out. Fields has been somewhat volatile this year, and he can improve his decision-making under pressure. But Fields has elite athleticism, arm talent and competitive tenacity, and as we saw in the BFC semifinals, he has the ability to take over. The present may be cloudy for Lions, but with Fields the future is bright.

Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue

The Lions could end up seeing their large receiving pool again in the 2021 offseason. Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola and Mohamed Sanu are all free agents. The Lions should only be interested in re-signing Golladay or Jones, and even then they don’t have the space to sign both.

Without a lot of draft capital or ceiling space, it looks like it’ll be a year in the trash for the Lions, but they can use any of their top picks to get some talent established. They get one in this Lions 7-round NFL Draft.

For a young quarterback like Fields, Rondale Moore is a solid addition, especially midway through the second round. Moore could be a first-round pick, but according to the same idea, his injury concerns could take him back to Day 2. Lions fans have plenty of reason to be concerned about the prospects with an injury history, but the Moore’s talent is worth the risk. It’s an explosive and dynamic threat at all levels of the pitch that can adapt quickly to Fields’ playing trends.

Jabril Cox, LB, LSU

The Lions defense needs help at all levels, which is ironic considering Patricia has been brought in to fix the defense. It is now clear that he has done more harm than good. The unit was one of the worst in the league in 2020 and is likely to stay in the cellar if the Lions can’t add more talent or add a coach to properly develop that talent.

This choice does not solve the problem of coaching, but Jabril cox can help provide second level versatility and playing ability. At 6-foot-4, 231, he is a long, lanky linebacker with elite athleticism and drive to the limit. He made the jump from FCS to SEC in 2020 and looked like he belonged. With utility as a pass defender, run defender and pass defender, Cox can play early in Detroit.

Dayo Odeyingbo, DL, Vanderbilt

At this point in our Lions NFL Mock 7-round draft, Detroit can go in a few different directions. They could come back on offense and stack receivers, but there is still a great need for help on the defensive line. The Lions were the last in the NFL in percentage pressure in 2020. That lack of disruption returns to the second and third levels and hinders the ability of linebackers and defensive backs to succeed.

A player in the fourth round will not solve this problem independently. Still, for a team that needs both inside and edge penetration, Vanderbilt’s Dayo Odeyingbo is an almost perfect fit. Odeyingbo still has room for development, but he is 6ft 6in and 275lb. He’s a long, explosive and nervous lineman who has the talent and the drive to line up anywhere from edge to technique zero. His versatility in passing the race from multiple positions can free up the Lions line, while maximizing Odeyingbo’s production capacity.

Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse

Ideally, the Lions didn’t end up here. They can do business in the offseason to get more picks for the Series 6 and 7. But until then, it’s their last pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. So, they have to lock down a player with a. advantage, although it is a bit difficult. Syracuse cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu is a seductive addition at this point.

Melifnowu is raw, but he’s tall and physical, and he’s also an elite cornerback athlete. In a young group of cornerbacks that already include 2020 NFL Draft first-round pick Jeffrey Okudah and top starter Amani Oruwariye, Melifonwu has the athleticism to be versatile with proper development.
