There will be no NFL Combine Scouting in 2021 – at least as we know.
The league informed its teams in a note on Monday that the event will take place without in-person training due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, all workouts will be done on individual professional days on college campuses.
The NFL has said it will work with colleges to encourage consistency of testing and drills throughout professional days to ensure there is a video of the practices available for all teams, even those that don’t. not participate.
Last season’s combine took place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis – as originally scheduled for 2021 – before the start of the pandemic.
In addition, the league plans to obtain comprehensive medical information on invited prospects, which will include a combination of virtual interviews with the team’s doctors and tests carried out near the prospects’ current residence.
For some prospects, however, the team will be allowed – through a doctor and athletic trainer – to perform in-person exams over a two- or three-day period in early April. Interviews with the prospect club and physiological tests and evaluations will all be done virtually. The teams had made it clear to the NFL after the 2020 virtual suit that collecting medical information on players was vital and difficult for them to do independently in an unorthodox format.
These recommendations were made by a special committee chaired by Giants co-owner John Mara.
