2021 Olympics Live Updates – US Men’s Hoops Go For Gold; marathon runner Molly Seidel wins bronze

We are entering the last weekend of the Tokyo Olympics and there is still a lot of material to be rewarded.

Friday night kicks off with the women’s marathon and the final round of the women’s Olympic golf tournament. Despite difficulties in the third round, the American Nelly Korda still holds a 3-time lead.

Knitting fans, or fans of knitters, will have an extra chance to see elite UK diver / knitter Tom Daley, taking part in the 10-meter platform dive.

That, however, is just the appetizer of the main course: the men’s basketball game for the gold medal. Kevin Durant and Team USA will face Evan Fournier and France (10:30 p.m. ET). It is a bit of a game of revenge for the Americans, who lost the Olympic opener to the French.

For Jerry Colangelo, the retired USA Basketball architect, this game is a highlight and perhaps a crowning achievement.

Here’s the best of all the action in Tokyo:

Surprise medal for Team USA

Molly Seidel of Team USA ran her very first marathon in February 2020, during the US Olympic Trials. A year and a half later, she is an Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo, finishing at 2:27:46. Kenya went 1-2 – Peres Jepchirchir won gold with a time of 2:27:20, followed by Brigid Kosgei. The women’s marathon race was moved earlier Saturday morning to Sapporo, Japan due to the heat and humidity.

Seidel is the third American to win a medal in the Olympic marathon, joining Deena Kastor (bronze, 2004) and Joan Benoit Samuelson (gold, 1984).
