2021 Patriots mock draft: Pats take big step forward for next quarterback

The Patriots are in a difficult position. They need a quarterback. Clearly. And although they rank 15th overall, higher than they were used to, they will likely be out of reach for the top four quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.

And now? They could trade for a quick fix like Jimmy Garoppolo. Or they could sign a band-aid option like Ryan Fitzpatrick. But in either scenario, what are they aiming for? A trade will mean real trading capital at the door and a significant cap. A free agent signing, given the talent available in this year’s crop of potential signers, could be nothing more than a one-year solution.

The draft is where most teams can really get on the path to a long-term fight. The Patriots are no different. That’s why in this team-specific, seven-round simulation project, we’re going to make sure the Patriots come away with a real cornerstone in the game’s most valuable position.
