2021 SEC football schedule: Alabama, Florida among exhibition games with dates set for next season

A rematch of the 2020 SEC Championship game arrives in Week 3 of the 2021 season, as Florida host Alabama on September 18. The game between reigning National Champion Crimson Tide and the Gators is one of the first headliners on the SEC schedule, which was released in full on Wednesday.

The first week of the season will be entirely non-conference games, and the second week consists of just one game between the SEC teams, with Missouri playing Kentucky. But Week 3 will put Alabama and Florida in the spotlight as the two try to replace quarterbacks who were Heisman Trophy finalists in 2020. The Crimson Tide will have games against Miami (FL) and Mercer under their belt, while that Florida will enter the high stakes affair after playing FAU and South Florida.

This will be the first time Alabama have played inside The Swamp since 2011, and the Gators have been looking for a decade of revenge with a 0-7 score against the Tide since 2009.

While many of the league’s flagship non-conference games are scheduled for Week 1 of the season, Week 3 will bring an intriguing game for Auburn first-year coach Bryan Harsin. The Tigers are set to play at Penn State this week after Harsin gets to work with games against Akron and Alabama State in the opening weeks.

SEC fans looking to host fall weddings may want to target October 23 or October 30 as the date. Of the 14 teams in the league, 11 are expected to have byes on one of these two dates. Outliers are Ole Miss (September 25), Mississippi State (October 9), and Vanderbilt (November 6).
