2022 Kia EV6 teased, will become the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle

Kia has released the first teasers for the EV6 2022, which will be their first electric vehicle based on the new E-GMP platform.

Formerly known as the CV, the EV6 will debut in the first quarter and feature a bold design philosophy that “embodies Kia’s shift in focus towards electrification.”

Speaking of the latter, the EV6 will be a sleek electric vehicle with a tapered windshield that sinks into a sloping roof. We can also see a clean body, flush door handles and an angular rear window.

Other notable highlights include the slender LED headlights and muscular rear hips. The model also has a single rear end with sequential turn signals and signature brake lights.

Kia remains light on specs, but they should echo the Hyundai Ioniq 5. As a result, we can expect 58 and 72.6 kWh batteries as well as rear and all-wheel drive setups. The latter uses two electric motors that produce a combined power of 302 hp (225 kW / 306 hp) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque.

The all-wheel drive variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, while the front-wheel-drive model with the larger battery has a range of around 480 km (298 miles) in the Globally Harmonized Test Procedure for Light Vehicles.

Full details will be released shortly, but Kia has confirmed that its dedicated electric vehicles will have a naming strategy that “brings simplicity and consistency” to global markets. As you have probably guessed, the names will begin with an “EV” prefix and will be followed by a number corresponding to a vehicle’s position in the lineup.
