Porsche took the lead over the Ferrari at the tight GTE Pro 24 Hours of Le Mans, when the race was two-thirds the distance while the No. 7 Toyota extended its advantage.
LMP1 – Toyota # 7 in a minute
The No. 7 Toyota continued to strengthen its lead at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Jose Maria Lopez driving until the 16th hour.
The Argentinian debuted time just a little over a minute on Fernando Alonso's TS050 HYBRID sister and won a handful of seconds while the two-time Formula 1 world champion stayed in the car.
He then gained time when Kazuki Nakajima took over the # 8 car at the 22nd day of testing for the Toyotas.
The lead for 7th place was 1m17 after a yellow period of complete course and had increased slightly to 1m20 while the race reached two thirds.
LMP2 – G-Drive keeps its cushion
Job van Uitert led the LMP2 class at G-Drive until the 16th hour of the match, after taking over from Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E champion.
Uitert first lost time in favor of the Signatech-Alpine led by Stéphane Sarrazin, but the gap then stabilized.
Following a complete yellow end of the course, the advance of the LMP2 class reached a little less than 1m30.
Sarrazin finished his relay in the hour and handed the Signatech to André Negrao.
Negrao is starting to be under pressure from DragonSpeed ORECA (Pastor Maldonado), fourth, while the gap is narrowing to just over 20 years.
Maldonado made the first stop in the last five minutes of the session, which exaggerated the gap to 1m40. He momentarily fell behind Gabriel Aubry of Jackie Chan DC Racing.
Mathieu Vaxiviere of TDS Racing matches the DragonSpeed strategy, but he is more than a minute behind Maldonado in fifth place.
GTE – Porsche at the front
Ferrari gave up its lead to the GTE Pro at the last pit stop cycle, when James Calado stopped to give the Ferrari No. 51 AF Corse to Daniel Serra.
That meant that Porsche found the advantage with Richard Lietz driving car No. 91, six seconds ahead of Corvette No. 63 Jan Magnussen and Patrick Pilet in the Porsche No. 93.
Serra reached 4th place, 29 seconds above Lietz early in the hour, and 35 seconds over the highest ranked Ford GT, No. 68 Joey Hand.
The Ford of Keating Motorsports retained the advantage of a lap on the rest of the GTE Am in the hands of owner pilot Ben Keating, with Patrick Lindsey keeping the Project 1 Porsche in second place and Jeff Segal in the third rank of the Ferrari of JMW Motorsports.
