25th anniversary of Persona celebrated by Atlus

While this may seem like a newer franchise to some, today (at least for those who were in Japan at the time of publication) marks the 25th anniversary of the Persona franchise. The series, which began as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, also developed by Atlus, released its first installment, Revelations: Persona, September 20, 1996. And to honor this occasion, Atlus himself chose to share a message with his fans this afternoon.

Mentioned on social media, the official Japanese account dedicated to all things Persona tweeted an image featuring Revelations: Persona next to the game’s original launch date. The tweet in question simply acknowledged that today is the anniversary and thanks fans for their continued support for the entire Person franchise. “25 years ago Revelations: Persona released in Japan! “, Atlus West’s official Twitter account then ended up sharing for Western audiences.” Happy Birthday to the Persona series! “

While this anniversary is significant for the Persona series, the bigger news associated with the franchise involves something Atlus has yet to announce. Earlier this summer, Atlus announced that it will begin making special announcements related to the Persona series starting in September of this year. At this point, that announcement has yet to take place, although some fans are under the impression that it could happen later this week. September 20, in particular, happens to be a day that many had circled on their timelines simply because it coincided with the original game’s birthday. While we clearly haven’t heard anything from Atlus about it yet, the studio may have something new to share before the day is up.

As for your own history with the Persona series, are you someone who has been playing this franchise from the start? Or did you rather jump a little later with an entry like Person 3, Person 4, Where Person 5? Let me know either in the comments or message me on Twitter at @ Mooreman12 let me know.
