Update:
A 27-year-old woman said she was bitten by a shark while swimming in the waters off Nāpōopo'o Park in Kealakekua Bay.
She was injured in her lower back and right hip and was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was treated. She would have been in good health and should be released.
The incident was reported around 8 am on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.
Police said the shark was described by a witness as having a gray tip. The size and type of shark are currently unknown. Swimmers are advised to avoid the Kealakekua Bay area.

According to the standard protocol for shark incidents, warning signs will remain in place for at least 12 hours. Wednesday, August 20, 2019.
Two bay operators are asked to keep people out of the water until everything is clear.
