Twenty-nine passengers are being treated for injuries sustained during severe turbulence on a Turkish Airlines flight en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport, authorities said.

Spokesman Steve Coleman, of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said four passengers had been taken to hospital after the plane landed Saturday at 5:35 pm.

One of them had a broken leg and others had bumps, bruises and cuts.

Coleman says that most of the passengers were treated inside an airport terminal.

New York City Fire Services tweeted about the incident on Saturday night, indicating that all the injured, including two children, had sustained life-threatening injuries.

The FDNY initially reported that 32 people had been injured, but the number of its victims was later reduced to 29.
