3 first free agent goals for the 2021 offseason

[ad_1]

The Miami Dolphins went from one of the worst teams in the NFL to a 10-6 team that narrowly missed the playoffs in just one offseason. Their overall growth has been tremendous and it is visible in every component of their team.

The Miami front office did a great job in free agency and in the draft, their coaching was fantastic and as a result their team has improved dramatically.

As next season approaches, the pressure is going to be on Miami to advance to the playoffs. They have a good team, but not a great team.

With over $ 25 million in free agency ceiling space, the Dolphins can really make a splash.

Here are three free agent targets for the Dolphins heading into next season.

Titans, Corey Davis

Clutch points

1. Dolphins sign a wide receiver

The Dolphins haven’t had a legitimate No.1 wide receiver for a few years now and last year it showed.

Although Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa receives a ton of criticism for his middle quarterback play, Miami’s receiving core is among the weakest in the NFL.

DeVante Parker has been solid for the Ends over the past few years, but acquiring a real No.1 target on the outside could make this offense a lot more dynamic.

Allen Robinson is the best wide receiver to move towards free will and is coming off an impressive season with the Chicago Bears.

Robinson is a big, strong receiver with good hands and strong road running skills. He would be a great target for Tagovailoa next season. Its reliability as a pass-catcher as well as its enormous catch radius should correct any amateur inaccuracies on contested catches.

Robinson has had over 1,100 straight yards, over six touchdown seasons with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles throwing the ball to him in Chicago, just imagine what he could do in Miami with Tagovailoa.

Allen Robinson should be the No. 1 priority for the Dolphins.

Cheaper alternative: Corey davis

Corey Davis just had his best season with the Titans as WR2. Davis nearly eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving entering the end zone five times last season. He showed his ability to be a red zone threat and a deep threat to a team running focused.

Davis would be a fraction of Robinson’s cost and could still be the best receiver wanted by the Dolphins.

2. The dolphins sign a Running Back

The Dolphins started the season with Jordan Howard and Matt Breida going their separate ways before rolling with Myles Gaskin as the returning first.

Regardless of who they showcased in the backfield, there’s no doubt the Dolphins could use an improvement to come back.

The Dolphins could go after Todd Gurley in free agency that would give them a running back and a threat out of the backfield.

A young quarterback’s best friend is a running back who can catch up to the backfield. Gurley would add a dynamic element to the Dolphins’ offense.

Alternative option: Leonard Fournette

Fournette has been solid for the Bucs in the last few games of the season, but has been rather disappointing since leaving Jacksonville.

Fournette may cost the same as Gurley but likely won’t give the Dolphins the same output in the passing attack.

3. The dolphins sign an outside linebacker

The Dolphins’ defense was the backbone of their team last season. Coach Brian Flores is a defensive-minded coach and Kyle Van Noy is heading towards free will, so the Dolphins are likely looking for a replacement.

Lavonte David would not only be a replacement but an upgrade.

David is a high IQ linebacker who excels at passing coverage. He’s a great tackler and covers a ton of ground when he’s covering.

David would be a perfect fit in this cover-oriented defensive team.

Cheaper alternative: KJ Wright

KJ Wright has been a staple in the Seahawks’ defense for 10 seasons, but he’s set to strike free will at 31 after his weakest season since 2013.

Wright is excellent at the running game and could give the Dolphins some versatility as a linebacker.

Although he is a very capable linebacker, the old run-stopper may not be quite as valuable in the open market as David. It would be a great second option.

Global

The Dolphins head into the offseason with two first-round picks and an opportunity to make this one of the most complete roster in the NFL.

With an abundance of overhead space and on the edge of a playoff spot, the Dolphins will not only be active, but aggressive to acquire a star player in free agency.
