BAL HARBOR, Florida – Three floors of a high-rise condominium in Bal Harbor were evacuated Monday afternoon after police saw suspected chemicals in a unit where a tenant had recently been evicted.

The 14th, 15th and 16th floors of the Majestic Towers Condo at 9601 Collins Avenue were evacuated, residents said, noting that they had received calls telling them to leave their homes.

Bal Harbor Police have confirmed that a tenant on the 15th floor was evicted last week. On Monday, the property manager entered the unit and called the police after seeing something suspicious.

Bal Harbor Police say they saw chemicals in a suspicious lab called Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Miami-Dade Police Bomb Squad and narcotics detectives are participating in the investigation.

Miami-Dade police called it a “narcotics scene” in a press release.

Authorities say there is a hazardous materials problem at the Majestic Towers Condo on Collins Avenue that may involve chemicals.
