NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (AP) – A pilot struck three of his South Florida football teammates who were waiting for their bus, killing the teenagers.
The Miami Herald reports that the accident occurred Saturday morning in North Miami. Authorities claim that the unidentified driver survived the wreckage and was hospitalized in serious condition.
The teenagers wore the football uniform and were ready to participate in a tournament in Weston. They were part of the Little Haiti Football Club, a non-profit organization that identifies low-income children with sports talent.
Pat Santangelo sits on the board of directors of the football organization. He added that many of the 100 children enrolled in the free program are homeless, undocumented or low income.
The teenagers were identified as Gideon Desir (13), Lens Desir (15) and Richcarde Dumay (17). They were not related.
