3 hostages rescued, armed suspect in custody after long standoff at southern LA liquor stores

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Three hostages, including a young girl, were rescued and an armed suspect was taken into custody after a several-hour standoff at a southern Los Angeles liquor store on Friday after- midday.

Several patrol cars were seen blocking traffic around 5 p.m. in front of the store on 67th Street and Holmes Avenue. The suspect was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon before rushing into the store.

At around 6:20 p.m., a SWAT team entered the store and rescued the hostages – a man, woman and young girl – from the situation. Each of the hostages was escorted out of the store by a member of the SWAT team.

A few minutes later, the suspect was taken into custody and no injuries were reported.

According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was armed with a handgun. A BB rifle was also recovered from the scene.
