BYU blocked Pepperdine’s return attempt with an 8-0 run to end the game.

Here are three takeaways from BYU’s victory:

  • The Cougars led by no less than 16 in the second half, but Pepperdine led a 12-0 run and closed the lead to three points with just under five minutes to go. BYU was able to tighten things up after the Waves returned, going 8-0 to close the game. Alex Barcello, Matt Haarms and Kolby Lee all scored for the Cougars.
  • The BYU defense performed well for most of the game on Saturday. The Cougars held the Waves at no point throughout the final 4:50 of the game. BYU limited Pepperdine to 26 points at 21.9% in the first half and 28.8% overall.
  • BYU top scorer Alex Barcello had an unusually quiet night. He lost part of his tooth during the game. He didn’t make a basket, going 0 for 7 from the field, but had four key free throws at the end of the game.
