Three of the Democratic state lawmakers who fled to prevent a vote on a Republican election bill have tested positive for COVID-19 as they locked themselves in Washington, DC – after ditching their face masks during of their travels.

Chris Turner, chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, said on Saturday that the three anonymous members, who tested positive on Friday evening and Saturday morning, would self-isolate for 10 days. One of the three has mild symptoms of COVID-19.

All three members had been fully vaccinated before them and nearly 60 other representatives crowded into chartered buses and planes Tuesday to deny quorum at a special legislative session called by Governor Greg Abbott.

In the days that followed, the group toured Capitol Hill lobbying for the passage of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, bills pushed by Democrats who would federalize elections and overturn GOP state laws targeting voter fraud.

The runaway Democrats held a social-distancing meeting with Vice President Harris, visited Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in his office, and rallied to sing a bogus version of “We Shall Overcome” for the hurry.

They have vowed to stay in the nation’s capital to thwart plans by the Republican-dominated Texas state legislature to pass legislation that would end 24-hour polling stations, ban ballot boxes and would require voter identification on mail-in ballots – measures that Democrats say are designed to exclude poor and minority voters.

Abbott has vowed to arrest the fugitives when they return.

“Once they return to the state, they will be arrested and brought back to Capitol Hill and we will conduct business,” the governor promised Tuesday.

The coronavirus cases have sparked mockery on social media.

“This is a group of people who said Greg Abbott was going to kill Texans by reopening the state and launching the mask mandate,” comments the Tory commentator. Erick Erickson tweeted. “Then they went to DC and weren’t wearing masks. “
